How much would it cost to get an upper back tattoo?
I’m planning on surprising my boyfriend by paying for his tattoo that he really wants.
He wants to get the tattoo on his upper back of the fiji mountains and the rising sun rays in the background.
I know that the cost of the tattoo is by hour but how much would it range to by the hour?
And i would like to know how much would get done in his tattoo?
Would they just do the outline of it?
Any information would help!
Thanks!

Most tattoo artists’ charge by how big the particular piece is and how intricate the design, colored, or solid black,….etc..
I have never heard of a shop charging by the hour.
Most artists have a minimum shop fee ($60 – $80)
You are going to need to have drawn out what your bf wants tattooed and then take it to an artist. They can give you a better, more accurate amount then us here. Even those that are tat artists here, will agree that one needs to see it to give you an estimate.
If the tattoo is shoulder to shoulder on the upper back, you would be looking at hourly. if its a large to medium sized, probably like 4-600. Smaller, like on the back shoulder, probably like 300+.
Yes, most tattoo artists, for larger more intricate works will charge hourly. I charge hourly for pieces that are going to require a lot of time and multiple sessions of work. If he is a big guy and its an hourly piece, you could be looking at 1,000+. If he isnt a big guy and its detailed and intricate, if could still be 1,000+.
And it pays to shop around, find the person who’s portfolio displays excellent quality in everything that they do from black and grey to full color, larger piece and smaller pieces having the same level of detail paid to them. And be comfortable with that person, both of you. He is going to be wearing it for the rest of his life, might as well like the person who is working on you, right?
Different parlors = different price.
