What are some fun jobs for people with lots of visible tattoos?
Right now I’m a stay-at-home mom, but I’d like to get out and find a part time job to get out of the house for a bit. I have a great resume (I’ve done everything from retail, weather forecaster in the military, to welding car frames and desk work) but I have lots of tattoos and typically bright hair. I’m willing to tone the hair down, but I’d rather be at a job that’s accepting of my personal taste. Any ideas?

Clubs, tattoo shops, waitress at a bar, maybe Pet Smart, um,…maybe you could sale stuff on e-bay!!! Or you could be a hair dresser……Good luck!!
hot topic (dont recommend it), receptionist at a hair stylist/tattoo/piercing studio, some music stores
Well I kinda think its a little turn off so i would be a ski instructor or something you need a lot of sleeves for!!!!
HEHEHE
Whole Foods hires pretty strange looking people. Maybe start your own Tatoo parlor or hair salon.
yes.
)
1.hot topic
2. tatoo parlor (duh
3.hard rock cafe
4. maybe you could be a bartender too
get a job as a receptionist at a tattoo parlor, they can also train you to do piercings.
You’d be perfect for Spencer’s or Hot Topic. If you have some artistic ability maybe you can apprentice yourself to a tattoo artist.
I worked as an accountant/consultant with my tattoos. I originally went out of my way to cover them up, but when my boss saw the one on my neck, she had no problem with it showing. I have even switched jobs with said tattoo and never had a problem.
I was very lucky, I worked for people who looked at my job skills and not my body modification interests outside of work. Some people will always judge, but some look at your ability. Those are the people we want to work for. I know some people won’t hire you with visible tattoos, but I figure I really don’t want to work for those close minded individuals anyway.
For some reason, all I can think is “hair salon,” but I’d suggest any place where the mood of the business is creative. Anything artsy or with flair. Can you tend bar? Could you enjoy working in a bakery? Do you like plants, you could work in a florist. I think your inner compass can probably point you in the right direction.
Maybe a part time bar tender, working sort of as a receptionist at a tattoo parlor, Being a hostess of sorts or waitress at a strip club, dont get me wrong there I’m not saying the last one to be rude at all.
working at a tattoo parlor…
There are a lot of corporations out there that focus on the work you do as apposed to how you look. Any job that does not deal with the public you should have no problem with.
It’s true that tattoos are not widely accepted amongst professional careers so to speak however, you’d be surprised that a lot of very respectable companies don’t mind.
Again, focus on getting away from anything having to do with public relations and customer service.
UPDATE: Oh yeah, another thing, look for liberal companies. Old companies tend to have older view points on professionalism and can still focus on “professonal apperances” a bit too much. Liberal companies are the ones who don’t really care what you look like so long as you get the job done.
Try head shops, tattoo and piercing places, waiting tables, bartending.
I am sleeved out, including hands and neck so I know what you feel. Retail is pretty much out of the question unless you work at certain establishment where they are the norm. I had 10 years of management experience at the same place before I got the tattoos and now I can’t even get a low position in retail. Welding would be interesting and good pay-hard work. I work in the social services field. I actually work with a “religious” organization that has no problem with my tattoos and many of the people I help have them anyway. Many of these agencies don’t have a policy against tattoos unless of course that are sexist, racist, or in some way derogatory. Some places may require a degree, but there are many jobs that do not.
Waitress at some locations.
and spencers in a mall.
Lots of places hire people with visible tattoos. Put your resume out there or fill out applications and find out. I know people with tattoos on their arms, neck, and even their hands who work in dollar stores, grocery stores, pet stores and so on… They may want you to cover a majority of them, but, oh well, life goes on…
have u tried the circus or a bikie whore?
I’m sorry that people are so closed minded that you need to “hide” your tats, but there is soooo much more out there then “bar, tat shop, saloon….” I personally have 4 tats, I have chosen to have them in places that can be covered (ONLY because I like the places I’ve chosen.. top of my foot, around my ankle and side of my leg). I work in EMS and have seen quite a few tats, there is one guy that has full sleeves. I saw a sheriff with full sleeves today. I plan on getting 2 more on the insides of my wrist, I don’t see my employer having a problem. There are plenty of opportunities, you just have to be willing to do the work. Although, I must agree with Alexinmn, welding does sound like fun!
*Tattoo Artist if you’re artistic./Counter at Tattoo Shop
*Professional Piercer/Counter at Piercing Studio
(Those two are actually pretty fun!)
*Cosmetic Tattoo Artist
*Hot Topic
*Hair Dresser
*Makeup Artist/Counter
*Claire’s
*The Icing
*Spencer’s
*Most beauty supply stores are lax on limiting.
Those are a few I know off of the top of my head, just places that I know that allow such appearances. I have pink hair, visible and not very small tattoos and facial piercings/stretched ears, so I know what you mean about not wanting to sacrifice much.
No worries, you should be able to find some places that you’d like. Good Luck!
